Acting Street Opera

These 2 days I went to Naiba troupe to help him act because he came pleading me that he didn't have enough people. Well, I am a very nice person so I agreed though I really dunno how to do street style opera.

On the first day, I arrived in the afternoon to do the noon show. The weather was damn damn hot sia! I almost melted in this merciless sun. The heat just keep striking me like it never struck anyone before. I can feel my flesh and nerves and organs all flaming. I am not kua zhang. I am serious.

I was kping the weather so hot... and asked around if there is any coffee shops in the area. All of them told me they not sure. What I need is an icy cold coke. Uncle Peter very nice. He heard that I am kping and went to coffeeshop to get me icy cold drinks! Awwww.... Peter is so nice to me! :)

After settling down, I declare that I am not going sing. I just want to act some maid role will do. But Naiba is very 'nice'. He told me that he won't let me do those ikan bilis role. He wants to force me to do something.... My god. I cannot one lor! He told me that noon show got no audience. I can practice and try to improvise on stage. Liew... no audience I also very stress because the musicians and naiba they all are watching me when it's my turn.

My role is a missy who owns a shop and later fall in love with a poor scholar whom already got wife. Therefore, I was forced to sing ... Luckily, I got an idea. I asked Naiba what kind of situation the show is about so while I was doing make up, I think up some lines to sing. When I got the lines I want, I write them down and try to remember them. As I am the one who wrote the lines, they were easier to remember.

And that was how I managed to pull off the afternoon show without danger. Naiba, my mum, all the rest of the members were looking at me when I on stage. They wanted to see how I fare..

The night show was a comedy and I am acting as Naiba's sister. Naiba is a gong kia (stupid kid) and I am a little girl of about 15 years old. Ok lah, not too young.

Again, I told Naiba I don't want to sing.. and I am serious but he said cannot. Must sing.... Haiz. STress leh.... So again, I made up one verse in my mind while doing make up. I already decided that I will just sing one verse.

SEKALI.... Naiba sabo me on stage!!! He suddenly forced me to sing by telling audience,"sister, your turn to sing!"

Wah lau eah... sabotage leh! I freaked out but I managed to pull it off fortunately.

After I sang, he wanted to sabo my mum.. but my mum simply replied,"It's not early anymore, mother is waiting for us...."

So my mum escaped the singing.. LOL....

Ah ni was very stylo yesterday! xiaosheng leh... Dun siao siao hor. She wore this orange costume which I think is very nice. The above pic is not the full costume, there is another outer layer. I pester Ah Ni to lend me wear... and she agreed. Hahha. I will borrow from her if got chance.

I also wear orange costume. This is quite a nice costume lor which Naiba just bought from Taiwan. This costume hor.. is quite small leh.. So the boobs part cannot zip up lor. Sometimes I hate having bigger chest than other people because some costumes just cannot zip. Naiba very steady. With a swift hand, he zip up the costume... to my amazement. Though the zip is up, it made my chest part very tight.. I feel like a ba zang.

Another thing is the skirt damn short. Haiz, I think the opera actors or the taiwanese all short short one. All the costumes so short.. weird lor...

My mum.. acting as my elder brother. Most of the time we go out together so it was actually easier for us. We talk to each other fluently. On stage I can also talk quite fluently with Naiba because we know each other very well..

Ah tian tian.... She looks good in this right? I think her hair was very well done. Another artiste did it for her. The back part is very nice. AIyah.. should take photo of the back too.

Naiba... the gong kia.. (stupid kid). He acted really stupid on stage lor. Said a lot of stupid things that sometimes I dunn how to reply him...

Ah peng.. LOL..!!! Acted as Naiba's wife in the show. Apparently, he is very ugly but in the show, naiba finds him very pretty because they are fated to be together.

Second night, naiba acted as handsome sheng again. Nice costume right.... This one not too dua ban and it can be modified to make it simpler. I quit like it but too bad this costume too Shengish. I cannot wear.

She promised to lend this yellow costume to me... cuz I think I can wear this even if I act dan...

Another costume bought from TW by Naiba and once again I got the same zip problem and the skirt length problem. HAhahaa.. Apparently, on these 2 days whenever I want to wear a costume, naibe will do the zipping for me cuz only him can manage to pull up the zip. He always say... ," My daughter.. you too big already..."

Then another artiste will say,"I also want big leh... Can give me some..?"

Very sorry about my pale face because all the photos were taken when the show about to end. My blusher already gone so my face look like very whitish. Never mind la. I extra only mah.. and in today show I finished my part quite early.. at 10pm like that I kana killed by Min Hui..

Forgot to say, today I got fighting scene leh! How exciting! But I didn't have time to practice with Min hui one or 2 strokes missed but overall still ok and I was still killed by her in the end.

I think it's quite fun lor to do the fighting but also quite stressed because we didn't rehearse much.

Acting street opera is not easy because it doesn't use any scripts. However, in these 2 days I realised that the skill can be acquired if you act often because the things they sing and talk about are sometimes the same. Only sometimes when you want to express something then you need to think up your own lyrics. For me, I prefer to think up my own words because I can remember them easier than trying to remember the words other people give me.

Strong Teacher

Never never in my life will I expect such a thing to happen to my chinese opera sub career. It came really all too suddenly and I wasn't prepared. I was only told that I will be carried up by Ang one month before the show. How am I supposed to lose enough weight by that time for Ang to carry me? Carry me is not an easy feat cuz I know my own weight very well!

Fortunately, on that day, my very strong teacher managed to carry me up swiftly. I was so freaked out everytime she does that. Here are 2 precious photos that someone took of that very moment.

Many people commented that I should let go of my right arm since I am supposed to be dead. How can I still cling so tightly onto teacher leh?

I told them many times that it is simply not possible. NOT possible! I will fall to the ground if I did that. Then people argue that I will look more dead if I can drop one arm and let it dangle. I looked quite unnatural with both arms around the neck.

Haiz, not that I don't want to but I really cannot. I rather that it looked unnatural like thia than to fall flat on the stage. Many people also argue that if I hold tight, I won't fall. Well, I did hold very tight but I will still fall if I let go of one hand I can feel it. I can feel that teacher already used up her strength to lift me up and I cannot afford to move an inch. Shifting my weight around will make me heavier. I told YH that she is not the one being carried so she don't know how it feels like to be carried like this by another lady that is 50+ years old. Try it... then tell me about it... :P

I think everytime Ang wants to do this show, I will have to go lose some weight lor. Until maybe she decided to let someone else do my role.....

Zheng De Jun

Apparently, our show's name is now officially, ZHENG DE JUN, as per the poster below.

Like I mentioned, I am given 2 booklet of tickets t sell so if anyone of you are coming, please get tickets from me k? Well, I am now showing you the poster so maybe you will have more of an idea how the show is going to be like and where the location is.

My god, I haven sold 1 ticket at all! I already said my friends don't watch opera de liao lor...

TBH - 10.10.09

Today's show was 唐伯虎点秋香 but we only acted the 点香 part. It's not very long, maybe only 15 minutes and I think my stage appearance only 5 minutes or less. But that's not the point. The point is tonight's male lead was as usual, our teacher Ang. Out female lead was howEVER, Mr Bala Oh.

Bala was the prettiest xiang and the cutest with his little cherry lips and grand hairdo. He attracted the eyes of all the audience tonight. Stealing the limelight even from Ang herself. Amazing right? Well, take a look at our female lead, Mr Bala.....

Sweet right? My favorite colour pink and he has got small lips too!

The best part is not over yet. Our second female lead for the night is a 米雪 look alike. Many people said our second female lead look like the HK star. Well. I will leave tat judgement to you. Nonetheless, our new hua dan was rather popular. Quite a few people said that she is pretty. :P

Next up, my mother did a successful make up and hairdo today which surprises us all. She looked good today as a dan.

Nice? She is good leh! I think she can convert to do dan liao if she can improve her movements more!~ woot~

How? Don't be jealous that my mum is a pretty dan lor. LOL Then again, got mother got daughter mah! Hahahah, that's why we can both do dan together lor I think.

This is me today~! How? Me and my mum look alike or not? LOL. Today I acted as Xiao qiu. The slipper floor almost made me fall! Dammit. My mum also kana the slippery floor's ambush.

Zhu ying also make a pretty dan wor~ She acted as Xiao Xia today. But then she prefer to do sheng because she thinks that the movements are easier... No need to be so careful about being delicate.


Baohua. I think she looks very sheng-ish leh. Not only I think so lor. Some other people, whom I cannot name, also think so. A very sheng-ish dan she is. Think she is better at doing sheng ba.

This pretty lady here today acted as Xiao Chun. Our new and upcoming dan also. She should go get a wig if she is really considering doing dan as a lifetime career....

Another Sheng-ish dan today acted as Xiao Dong. The anonymous person I showed the photo to also agree that Wanxin is Sheng-ish and she should permanently do sheng also..

This artificial Mi Xue is neither Sheng-ish or Dan-ish. Then how? In the middle of no where lor...

花月正春风 - Rehearsal

Yesterday, I received my script for the above show. Apparently, about 3/4 of the original show was ommited as we have to reduce the 30 episodes show into 2 hours. Many parts were missing like the part where the emperor married a girl because he made the flower bloom and the evil emperor look alike character was also not inside.

Then ending was also changed to a happier ending because Ang said that we have already acted one tragedy. This time, we must act a happy show. Hee hee.. This time I don't have to die. Also, I think this role of mine is not as stressful as the previous one. Not as many lines and not as many songs and most parts are quite light hearted. I especially like the part of me quarreling with YH.

After the rehearsal, Ang asked me to help sell tickets. She gave me 1 booklet to sell. I told her that I am really bad at selling tickets.

Then she passed 2 booklets to YH!

I laughed at YH when she gave the very shock face. I told her tha she is xiaosheng and normally xiaosheng sell more tickets mah. Ang then told me, since you are female lead then you also sell 2 booklets lor. YH laughed.

So now I got 2 booklets to sell. Anyone want to buy ticket, find me. Dont find YH hor.

花月正春风

I almost FORGOT to blog about the photo shoot we had for the above title. Fortunately, MD said something about my china trip which reminded me that I did not blog this. How can I not blog it right? Especially when I have loyal readers who check out my blog everyday. :LOL:

That day was a rushing day also because we actually planned to reherase after the photo shoot but very unfortunately, we took the whole afternoon.

Those who have watched this show before should be able to tell who is acting what role from the photos below but for the convenience of those who never seen this show before, I will still intro. Of course, I don't have everyone's photo.

The side view of me. Well, I wanted to show my pony tail!! I used my own hair and attached it to the top of my wig to make this pony tail because I couldn't find one pony tail. And anyway, a ponytail made of real hair will cost me a bomb. So the best way is to use my own hair. Then I also wanted May Teng to see the flowers she gave me. I attached it to the back of my head. I love it when I can do patterns with my own hair... Hee hee..

Teacher is our 皇帝小生. Here she is as the emperor again.

Da Li Qin as the 粱太师. Curious about his red nose? He is an alcoholic so he got the red nose.

Bala fulfiled his dream to act as a xiao sheng. LOL, but I am not sure if this photo on the newspapers or posters will boost our ticket sales. You know, people or aunties really go after handsome shengs only.. Well, Bala still need to lose some weight.

And Bala made this costume because none of Ang's costumes fits him. Hee hee... He is getting better and better with making costumes le leh.

Awww.. me and YH~ But we not acting couple in this show. We are unrelated at all. Haha.. in fact, we quarreled in the show which I thought is quite fun. I like shouting at her leh!

This is the 王爷 and 皇后. Well, the wang ye looks very serious in this photo but he is actually a comic character. Meaning BH got to try to be funny lor. I think it's not easy to act funny sometimes. Zhu ying must be very happy to do the empress because the role is very light and yet she can dress up~

YH acting as the Oil seller. She is supposed to act blur and silly... and naive. It's been a long time since YH do a role like this but she can one la because she everyday give me that blank look. I think she very natural already. Hahaha.

Then to our utmoust surprise, we were asked to walk to the temple to take photos?! What?! With my costume and all... It's damn hot leh the weather. Haiz. Bo bian.. So we walked all the way to the temple to take photos. I should take more photos of the other people there but I got no mood because weather was too hot. I must admit though that the temple does make a good backdrop for us.

Lastly, I want to present Tian's photo here as a guest appearance. Hahah,.. I took it when I visited her before I went China. She was acting for dearest Naiba in Yishun. May Teng should come support lor since she live there but she never go.... Cuz her tummy too heavy liao. Baby coming out soon...

Ah Tian tian tian... That day I took one of her hair pieces to play a fool. I put it on my head and walk around... then I forgot to return it to her and brought it home! Oh my god.. lol... It's still in my drawer now..

Hua Yue Zheng Chun Feng

That is the name of our latest show. Flower moon and Spring Wind if you want to translate it directly.

I have never seen this show before. Just like I have never seen Long Feng Xiang before so I have no idea what this story is about.

Yesterday, Ang asked me if have any xiao sheng photos for the poster. I was very happy. I thought maybe I am going to act as sheng in this show. Apparently, I was wrong. YH told me that there is a role in the show where a girl disguised as a man to kill the emperor.

Oh, so I am a girl disguised as a man lah. But never mind! I still get to dress up as sheng mah. Hahaha. I dunno what the story is about so I am not sure about what kind of role this is but since Ang assigned it liao, I will try hard lor.

Then this morning, Ang called and ask me to go down for photo shoot tomorrow. I am supposed to bring a 'wu' costume... Wah, first time acting as a wu dan leh! LOL. Finally can kick some ass. :P

Thank god, recently I have been taking classes with Li lao shi and he thought me some fighting skills. I can put them into some good use. :) So exciting right! Can't wait to get the script. This is a new kind of role for me. Not the usual missy type so I am really excited..

Shua Chang Lian Pu

I saw this video of Kong Ying singing the song, 说唱脸谱. I like this song very much and I think Kong Ying sang it very well for a kid her age! She is soooo young and she already got such a powerful voice. Then again, many china kids have talent like this. It's amazing. Listen to this.
